Meet Dr. McRae
Dr. Matthew McRae, Jr. has been serving the Athens community and surrounding areas with quality and professional dental services for more than 34 years, by the grace of God. Dr. McRae received his undergraduate studies from Fort Valley State University and dental degree from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. Later in 1983 Dr. McRae received his fellowship with the Academy of General Dentistry, and in 1993 a master’s with the Academy of General Dentistry.
He pursued continued studies with the Pankey Institute and Sterling Management Systems. Recently, Dr. McRae attended the Medical University of South Carolina and successfully completed a course in “Bone and Soft Tissue Grafting for the Dental Implantologist.” Dr. McRae gets very excited about continued educational courses. A dentist who continues his education is a dentist who knows and understands what he does best in his field; Dr. McRae is such a dentist.
Dr. McRae belongs to the following professional organizations: The Academy of General Dentistry, Georgia Dental Society, Christian Dental Society, Clarke County Dental Society, National Dental Association, and Implantology Dental Society. Recently, Dr. McRae was presented the distinguished Alumnus Award by the School of Dentistry Alumni at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. He cofounded MCG’s McRae/Orrington Scholarship for dental students. Most recently, he agreed to serve on the foundation board at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry in Augusta.
Community involvement includes: past board member of Boys and Girls Club of America; established annual scholarship for the Athens Area Human Relations Council; and exhibitor in the annual Health Fair sponsored by the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce. Social organization memberships include: Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and One Hundred Percenters, Inc.
Dr. McRae is an elder at Church of The Nations Assembly of God, where he is very active with missions. He makes annual trips to Nicaragua to serve individuals’ dental needs.

He is one of the founders and supporters of Los Playoas School (Nicaragua). Dr. McRae is married to Barbara and they have four children — Matthew III (Heather), Kenneth Lennell, Barbara Shundria, Jennifer Shuntae — and four beautiful grandchildren.
